Criminal to litter

The problem of littering has been debated by the Riksdag today, 22 september, in connection with the treatment of the environment- and the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development's recommendation to introduce stricter rules for the use of disposable plastic products and waste management. According to the proposal, it will be a criminal offense to litter even with occasional small rubbish. Such a minor offense is not punishable today but is proposed to be from 1 January 2022.
– Littering is a problem in several ways and entails costs for the association and safety risks for people and nature, says Helge Jonsson, chairman of Långå FVO / Långåfisket. Hopefully, the change in the law will lead to different behavior, even if the problem cannot be legislated away. Everyone is well against littering, even those who commit it without caring about the consequences. It is difficult to understand that this is the case.

According to the rules, littering is always forbidden everywhere within the Långå fisheries conservation area. Zero tolerance! The board of Långå approves that everyone with a fishing license has the right to point out errors that others are guilty of. At the same time, the board appeals to everyone to bring the rubbish that still ends up in nature through the ignorance and carelessness of others. We must help prevent the problem and avoid the consequences, says Helge Jonsson.
