Background
When Mikael Alvarsson, the knife maker from Segmon outside Grums, learned that we had problems financing the renovation of Långåljusnan, he decided to make an effort. The municipality had said no to this year's rural funds.

I've been fishing in your waters since I was a kid. Would love to help you in some way, cannot give any money as I am a so-called poor pensioner. But I am also a knife maker and would be happy to donate a knife that you can bid on.

So he wrote to us. It was 2019. On that road it is!

Behind the short message was Mikael Alvarsson, a personality filled with thought and consideration and who has the ability to do something valuable for those who may need help. Mikael is a regular fisherman in Långå. My dad Ove, had me in the backpack, I was so small, he says. Since then, the fishing trips have continued together with wife Margareta and the orientation still applies.

The weeks in Långå every summer are their way of getting energy. Mikael's work for thirty years wore his body out and finally it stopped. A meager pension of a few thousand was the straw for the future. His strong will and commitment keep him going. His insight and understanding of what reality looks like motivates his helping hand.

After many working hours, Långåkniven is now no 3 clear, plus a ring of reindeer horn to attach the scarf with. They are sold, separately, to the highest bidder and the money goes to Långå fisheries conservation association's investments in biotopes that favor natural regeneration of the original fish species.
