Renegotiation of water judgments can create new opportunities for fishing

The national plan for the review of hydropower (NAP), means that the hydropower facilities must be reassessed to modern environmental conditions with flows and measures that restore some natural values. The County Administrative Board handles the negotiations concerning Ljusnan and Mittån, thus for the interests that Långå FVOF has. Since August, the board of LFVOF has had a working group that reviews and formulates requests and requirements for Långåfisket. It is a unique opportunity with the opportunity to be heard for the values that were lost in connection with the water judgments from the end of 1960. Despite knowledge of the consequences, those judgments were completely devastating for Långåfisket, including the transfer of water from Övre Särvsjön and whitefish migration to the Grundsjömagasinet.

-Our starting point is to bring back several of the natural values that have been lost without it having a negative impact on hydropower's other capabilities such as regulating power and electricity availability. Then we stay within what can be considered 'reasonable' and thus increase the chances of our needs being heard, says Helge Jonsson.

There is some room for negotiation for increased bottling from Lossen, which would give the renovated part of Långåljusnan more living space for fish. The county administrative board has considered a possible minimum collection to Mittån to be reasonable and, if so, it would be possible to recreate sport fishing there, even if it is in a different format, but to the advantage in terms of trout.

The experiences from the collaboration with Fortum, The county board and the municipality consider Helge Jonsson to be a strength and advantage in this context. There, the 'reasonableness criterion' is applied, which makes it possible to combine conservation, energy- and fishing interests in a constructive way, he believes.

At the annual meeting at the end of March, the board must be able to present its proposal for an action program and initiatives that it wants to include in the negotiations.

According to the master plan, the water judgments for western Härjedalen must be finalized around 2030.
