Hardly have the weekend celebrations passed into the intervening days when the winter fishing begins. It is a combination of tradition and longing, perhaps to try a Christmas present or in any case to reconnect with their great interest. For real. Winter fishing really starts as soon as the ice settles and is durable enough for the safety they have to promise! The fish feel 'when it turns’ like us, the darkness must give up, even if it is both slow and sluggish. The crisp air is pleasant to breathe and the exhaled air immediately freezes into small crystals and forms a cloud. The thermos in the backpack keeps the heat. The excitement rises with the hope of getting a feel and sometimes you can be lucky to get a char on the hook. The experience from last year is that small chars were caught, three-year-olds on a tight leash, in Grundsjön. They were many, but as said, small! We can interpret it as proof that there is a natural reproduction of Grundsjöröding in the power magazine. It will be interesting to follow the reporting at the beginning of the new year. If the trend continues, there is reason to start hoping that the new strategy will work. That is: stocking of fertilized rum in places that are not laid dry during winter power production! The fact that it is small chars that are caught so early can be explained by the fact that they have less fat reserves that need to be compensated early.

In the Långå fishery area, there is a general ice warning from late autumn until the spring months when the winter period is coming to an end. It applies this year, and next year and as said, always! The icing so far was promising in the beginning, but soon there was plenty of snow that laid down as insulation over the ice sheets and the hope of ice cores ended. This means that the ice is fragile, the weight of the snow can cause water to be pushed up and a slush is formed where the snowmobile can get stuck. Added to this are the usual risks with sources, underwater currents and thinned areas where the ice has lost its bearing capacity. On Lake Grundsjön, cracks and subsidence occur in the ice when the water is drained for electricity production. Ice knowledge and caution are good to have.
